To be honest, I haven’t the slightest clue where this word was coined. “God-fidence" a word, that at least for me has a two fold meaning. Firstly, it means having confidence in God, knowing that he is who he says he is and that he will do what he says he will do. Secondly, it is having confidence in yourself because you know that it is God who is working in you and through you. Let us explore the latter meaning a bit more.
Where does your confidence come from?
Does your confidence come from the clothes you wear or how good your body looks? How about what you do for a living or the many hobbies you engage in during your spare time? Let us not forget money. Is your confidence dependent upon the amount of money in your bank account?
Don’t get me wrong. Feeling good about yourself whether it be in clothes, appreciating your accomplishments at work or in your studies and even feeling happy about making a decent living is not wrong. However, the Bible tells us that these things in the end are indeed fleeting and our confidence in ourselves cannot be solely based on these things.
Matthew 6:19-21
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
God knows that these things are important and necessary for life, but what He tells us to do is to put Him first and then He will provide the things that we need.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you also.
That being said, where then shall our confidence come from? It should come from Christ. All around us we see a fight and struggle for confidence. There has been many a motivational speaker, a plethora of videos on social media on this very topic. Why is this? Because we all want to have faith in ourselves and to feel beautiful. We all want to believe that we have what it takes to achieve our dreams, to stand tall and make some kind of impact in our lives and in the lives of those around us. My friends, let me be the one to tell you that it is better to have a Godly perspective on all of these things. Your plans and ideas for your life may be great, but God’s plans for your life are always greater. Your view of yourself may be highly flawed, but God’s view of you is one where you are identified as the salt of the earth, a friend of Jesus, a child of God, a royal priesthood, fearfully and wonderfully made. Furthermore, God promises to equip us to accomplish His will and purpose for our lives. It is His desire to help us.
Psalm 18:32 - 35
It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.
Philippians 2:13
For it is God who works in you, to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
My friends, let us walk with our heads held high knowing that we are forgiven and loved. Knowing that God calls us beautiful. Knowing that once we are rooted in Christ Jesus, we do not have to be fearful of our daily tasks, of any battle we may face, or even our future. Let us stand tall with our feet planted on the solid rock that is Christ Jesus our Lord and saviour, the one who formed us, made us and is refining us constantly day by day. He is a dependable God. We can have faith that He will not only guide us to and through His purpose for our lives but also that He will help us to accomplish it.
Psalm 23:1
The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing.
Prayer Today
Lord, thank you that you are God. Thank you that we can know that you are faithful and true to your words. What we ask of you today, is simply to remind us of who we are in you so that we can walk around with God-fidence. Help us to remember that you are our very present help in times of trouble and that we can make it through whatever task or challenge life throws at us so long as we depend on you. Thank you for reminding us that we are wonderfully made and thank you for constantly working in us and through us. We feel privileged to be your servants and to be called your friends.
In Jesus’s name I pray,
Amen.
