God-Fidence Pt II

In the previous devotional I wrote, I spoke about God-fidence and how it is imperative that we as God’s people find our confidence in God and not in man, in the things of heaven and not in the things of this earth. In this study today, I want to highlight some of the reasons why we can have confidence in God by expounding on some aspects of his character that he has shown me throughout the years.

God never changes

Hebrews 13: 7-8

“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever”.

We see throughout the bible how God took care of his people, Ruth, Abraham, Esther, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Moses are examples. Consider the course of their lives, the hardships and trials they faced, yet despite this God’s unfailing love was evident through it all. None of them were perfect. They made some mistakes and suffered many hardships yet they held on to their faith and God blessed them. He guided them and protected them through it all. In the end, they rested well and their lives served as a testament to the goodness of God, fulfilling the calling on their lives. God has not changed. He did it for them and it is his will to do it for you. Consider how the Lord orchestrated their lives from birth to death and personalize it.

God will orchestrate my life as well. I will accomplish his will and plan and purpose in this very life I am living.

God is all knowing

Hebrews 4: 13

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

Isaiah 46: 9-10

Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand and I will do all that I please.’

Everyone’s life, is laid out like a canvas before the Lord. He knows the beginning and end of time. This means all the potential outcomes of your life, he already knows. Wouldn’t it then be wise of us to have confidence in the decisions he makes for us? He already knows how things will turn out and is it not his desire for us to live a good life in him? One of righteousness, filled with the joy of the Lord? So, if he tells us not to worry about something, if he tells us to step out and do something, if he asked us to follow him and his guidance about a certain matter then we can be confident to know that it’s because he already sees that his way is the best way.

God is all powerful

Matthew 8: 26-27

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “what kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

It takes reading Job 38-40 one time, with a heart posture of humility to understand how much authority God really has over all the things in heaven and on earth and how small and insignificant we are compared to that. From the arrangements of the stars in the sky, to the feeding of ants here on earth, it is all subject to and under God’s complete authority. Our God is truly powerful. Nothing is too great for him. Nothing is too small. We can have confidence in this powerful God. He is able to move mountains, part seas, wipe out armies both literally and figuratively. We do not serve a weak, small, or incapable God; but rather a big, mighty and strong God who operates and does all his works from the heart of love. If there is anything to be confident about, it would have to be that God is able. Not only is he able, but he is also willing show up in these mighty ways in our lives – mind you on his terms.

Today, let us remember who it is we are really serving. God is awesome, mighty, powerful, all knowing and unchanging. God is who he is, and I am grateful for that. Let us have confidence in him and his ability, his trustworthiness and faithfulness to us. He has proven himself time and time again in the past, in the lives of others and even in our very lives – though some of us may not have been able to see it yet.

Be steadfast, be faithful, have God-fidence.

Prayer today:

Lord, I just want to say thank you. Help me to be confident in you and your love towards me, your ability to calm the storms of my life and your ability to preserve my life until your coming. Thank you, I love you.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
