Nameless Servant

A nameless servant, is all I want to be
A beam of light, reflecting thee
That when they all expectantly gaze upon me
Only thy radiance shall they see
I see titles and banners, mighty halls of fame
Milestones of achievements, crowds chanting their names
I hear many a servant, staking their success claims
But I've learned better, than to join that indulgent game
I make secret sacrifices and obscure offerings of only that which is pleasing to you
Satisfy my weary soul with hidden pleasures anew
Daily I, panting run to be made new
In your uncomely likeness, clout to eschew

Oh that our hearts would once more return to a place of seeking your approval only!
Not above the approval of man, but instead of the approval of man!
May I never fan the flame of arrogance for a fan
May I never tarnish my ears with the whispers of pride
Singing songs of my vain boastings
And may the sting of entrenched self glory never spread toxins throughout my life
May I
Only
See
You.
Let the arteries on my heartstrings give you standing ovations when I reflect on your greatness
May the flattery of folks who feel fantastic fail to feature in my focus
May the thunderous applause of man be as imperceptible to my natural ears as the sound of my success when compared to yours - NOTHING
Still my ego
Silence my fear of failing expectations
Empty me of me fill me with you
May they
Only
See
You.
May the praises of man never suffice in this pilgrim land where nothing but you can satisfy
May we, your people return to the shadows so that your light can beam forth ever brighter
May the world see you in us
May we decrease and you increase
May the passion and fervor for meekness be released
I yearn to be lowly rather than be made low
A nameless servant of the only one anyone needs to know.
