How does God see you?

Updated: Dec 7, 2020

Let's talk about lot | Text: Genesis 19| 2 Chronicles 16:9 | 2 Peter 2:7-8

Reflection:

Lot lived among the wicked people of the city of Sodom. We have grown very familiar with the ungodly city and their demise, and for many of us we have heard Lot described as an antithesis to Abraham. Abraham being the faith led, righteous man who obeyed God wholeheartedly while Lot was a carnal, fleshly man who didn't make wise decisions and ended up impregnating his daughter on the mountain of incest.

However, it is interesting to note that while Abraham is listed among the faithful in the famous "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11, he made many carnal, wrong decisions along his life's journey. For instance, Genesis 20:2 we see Abraham (not acting in faith), telling Abimelech that Sarah (his wife) is His sister out of fear. We know of the agreement between Sarah and Abraham to produce offspring by Hagar because they both doubted God's ability to produce the promised seed from their loins.

In any event, Abraham, though righteous, had moments of faithlessness. Lot, though carnal at times, had times of faithfulness that impressed God. In 2 Peter 2:7-8 scripture teaches us that Lot was saved by his righteousness. He is identified as a good man who was sickened by the ungodliness around him and because of His heart's posture he is saved from the destruction of the city. Are our hearts good?

Prayer

Lord, please forgive me for the many times in life I have been faithless and I've operated out of my flesh. Help me to be faithful to you and to live the kind of life that will merit your mercy and blessings. Remove the instincts, patterns of thought, habits and behaviors that do not flow from faith and also help me to seek to impress you more than I seek to impress people (man).

I thank you and glorify you for your work in my life, Amen.
