Psalm 18:24
“The Lord has Rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight”
Have you ever been tempted to feel like God was withholding rewards from you? Comparing ourselves to others has been an attribute of humanity from the days of Cain and Abel. The grass is always greener on the other side, and as we look at another’s achievements and compare it to our own, we often find some kind of difference that leaves us in want. We begin to ask…When is it going to be my turn to be blessed Lord? When will it be my turn to receive grace and favour? be it at work, in my home or in my relationships? Is it something that I’m doing wrong? We may even begin to feel as if God is withholding these things as a means of punishing us for our sins or unworthiness.
Something that is very important for us as Christians to remember is that God loves us. He loves us, and his heart towards us is clearly expressed throughout the scriptures. On the topic of rewards and what God’s heart and mind towards rewarding us, his children really is, this is what the scripture says:
In Psalm 18:24 as quoted above, the psalmist states that because of his righteousness God had rewarded him. What is important to note however, is that he states this righteousness was deemed to him “in His (God’s) sight”. Our righteousness does not come from works (Romans 3:22) rather it is a gift given to us through the faith that we have in Christ Jesus. It is through this lens that God sees us. If we believe in Jesus wholeheartedly then God sees us as righteous. This very fact therefore nullifies the thought that somehow, we are unworthy of God’s blessings and disqualified from receiving any good gifts. In God’s eyes a believer is completely worthy!

Hebrews 11:6 states:
“Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him”
Psalm 84:11
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
I share this with you today, as the Lord had heavily impressed on my spirit that his people need to know that it is his pleasure to give good gifts and to bless us. He wants us to be reminded that because of the great love he has towards us, it is his will that we lead a good and prosperous life. He knows the desires of our hearts very well and it isn’t a mystery to him what we want and need in life.
I end this with sharing this scripture of the lesson he taught to his disciples long ago:
Matthew 7:11
“If you then, who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Prayer:
“Lord Jesus, thank you that you are the head of my life. Thank you, God, that you know me through and through, and that nothing is hidden from you. I believe today that you love me and it is your desire to bless me in this season of my life. You have brought me out of darkness into your light, and that is where I always want to be. Bless me as is your desire. Grant me your grace and favour as I, Lord, continue to pursue you and chase after you each and every day. Thank you, Lord, for all that you have done, and are doing and will do for me and the rest of your children, In Jesus name. Amen”
Powerful piece! Thanks for your obedience in sharing this. I needed the reminder. " no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.." Amen!
Thank you this was a blessing
